Global Entreprenuership Week Singapore

Hello again.. AbangAbu just came back home after being at the opening ceremony of global Entrepreneurship week at Toa Payoh Hub. Minister for Trade And Industry Mr Lee Yi Shyan was the GOH.

It was a great event where there are 75 countries around the world are doing something entrepreneurial this week. For Singapore NUS Enterprise and ACE co-host the this event.

There were also a pushcart competition being held for 2 days . It ere a colourful event.

At this same event Ahshik Launch his book “7 Steps to Become a Young Entrepreneur” I had some photos for all of you to see. It is a very proud moment as his is only 12years old and eager to do more.

7 steps to become a young entrepreneur

Hi my friends ,

I am so proud to let all of you know that my son Ahshik now age 12 will be launching his first book “7 Steps to become a young entrepreneur” . This is his second project after the success of his first business that he started at the age of 9, Motivational postcards , than book marks and now the book.

I would love to ask all of you that will be free on 18th Novemeber to witness the launch at TOA PAYOH HUB the retail mall. This is happening in conjuction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week where NUS and ACE will host it for singapore.

The GOH for the launch will be our President SR Nathan.

I will update on the launch with some photos as well, and do catch news and newspapers too. He will be selling his autographed copies on that day. So do get a copy for yourself and also for those young people that you know.

It is 140 pages and all about the steps that he himself go through during his entrepreneurial venture. I believe the book will be a great success and will motivate him to do more and also become a socially responsible person, and he will anounce a new venture to raise 1mil for 2 charities that he will mention on that day. So  do come and witness as well support for this young entrepreneur that we all can be proud of.

DALAM keadaan ekonomi malap, ramai yang mungkin kehilangan pekerjaan. Ini akan mendorong mereka yang dibuang kerja itu memulakan perniagaan kecil-kecilan atau sambilan.

Oleh itu, AbangAbu ingin memberikan panduan tentang cara-cara memulakan perniagaan.

Setiap orang mempunyai sebab tersendiri kenapa mereka ingin berniaga.

Ada yang mahukan kebebasan memegang wang, kebebasan masa supaya dapat melakukan apa yang diminati, atau inginkan sesuatu yang baru.

Apa jua sebabnya, anda perlu memastikan bahawa anda mengambil langkah yang bijak, jika tidak anda akan menghadapi kesukaran dan kekecewaan.

Dalam memulakan perniagaan, beberapa soalan akan timbul:

  • Masa yang perlu anda laburkan dalam perniagaan anda;
  • Apakah matlamat kewangan anda?
  • Perniagaan apakah yang harus anda mulakan?
  • Bagaimana mendapatkan wang permulaan?

    Dalam memulakan atau menjalankan sesuatu perniagaan itu, anda memerlukan pengalaman serta pengetahuan.

    Sama ada anda berpengalaman atau tidak, anda perlu mempunyai pengetahuan tentang mengurangkan risiko dalam perniagaan anda.

    Pengalaman akan anda perolehi, tetapi tidakkah anda terfikir bahawa pengetahuan adalah lebih penting sebelum anda mendapatkan pengalaman?

    I Am feeling GREAT as my first M.A.P untuk Bisness workshop was a great success. After nearly one year M.A.P untuk KAYA workshop and after reaching nearly 700 participants , AbangAbu develop another workshop that is so important for our communnity which i called M.A.P untuk Bisness workshop.

    We had 2 days session from 9am to 5pm each day at AMP pasir Ris.

    This is the first workshop that attracted 42 participants and AbangAbu believe that all of them will become successful entreprenuers in time to come.

    AbangAbu had so much FUN as much the participants as well. And for those who attended the workshop i would love to see if you comment your expiriences in the workshop.

    All this participants will be coached for another 6 months by AbangAbu , this is to make sure that all the participants will start and run business.

    And AbangAbu also would love to see if other malay organization would love to bring this to their members..  If anyone of you belongs to any malay oragnization do tell your organization about this workshop. It will be a great workshop to have so that we would be prepared when the retrenchment move in. At the same time will give us the other option what we can do .

    Hi friends ,

    Abangabu were very busy lately alhamdullilah with so many programs and workshops going on. This Economy crisis is one of the worst as what people are talking about and it will effect every one . Some will feel the pinch and some will enjoy creating more. So which side you want to be in?

    As entrepreneur i believe that we have to create our own LUCK in business no matter what condition we are in.

    So to succeed in business in this current economic condition we need to have L U C K

    so here we go….

    L- Location.

    This is the most important thing that we as entrepreneur need to take note. location where we are to do business play a very important part in a success of a business.Look at those successful businesses and you will see them in a very startegic locations. So when you really want to succeed getting the right location is very important. And currently with this economic uncertainty you will even get a better bargain in wonderful locations. So look out for the best location for your business.

    U- Understand.

    Another important factor is to understand what is happening currently. What are the things that people needs and wants this current moment.? Ask yourself how your product or services is something that they need now? The best way is to find out what people looking for at this current moment of economic condition and provide that services. Always think from the customers shoes.( think from the customers point of view).You will get your luck if you understand whats going on around you. Many fail to understand this and struggle in business. AbangAbu also learning to do this now. Provide what people need at the current time.

    C- Connections

    Aha, this again, i had been talking almost many many times about this. This is a major factor in succeed in business. You have to build the connections with your customers, make them know you care in current times and you wanted to help them as well. Get connected to people who can help you to reach your goals. Sometimes even you are at the right location and understand what happening you might not get what you wanted if you don’t have the right connections. So build your connections with every one. Customers, suppliers, advisers, mentors, media and any one who will support your growth. So never miss out this if you want to have luck.

    K-Knowledge

    As entrepreneurs or even who ever you are , life long learning is a must in order to be successful. Today , the world change rapidly and so fast what you learn will become absolute in just few days. So constantly seeking knowledge in the field or business, or industry that you are in become very important. Knowledge about your customers and their needs is critical to create luck too. Keep updating with current condition of the world and connected to the global happening will open up a whole new great opportunities and that will create luck for you and your business.

    So in conclusion AbangAbu want to tell you that its you who create luck for you. Nothing will change unless you change. learn and keep learning to create those luck.

    This Week Entrepreneur: Trading and supply Biz

    How are you? Its been sometimes already that i get entrepreneurs to be featured here . And this week i get to meet this mother whom i saw few times and i like the energy that she have towards being successful.

    I want her to share some of her tips and ideas that might be useful for all of us.

    She don’t want her picture to be here anyway… But my advice for entrepreneurs never be shameful to show your face to the world.

    1) What kind of business do you have? What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

    I am doing supply and trading business. What really inspired me to be an entrepreneur beside the vast potential income is that I can be my own boss and manage my time according to what I realy want , not dictated to me by my boss.

    2) Did you need to have a certain mindset to achieve success?

    Of course. In doing business you HAVE to have the right mindset. You need to be VERY positive and willing to accept the rejections that come your way as a learning experience to excel in your business.

    3) Have you noticed certain advantages to being an entrepreneur?

    Yes, being able to maximise your true potential and test yourself to the max. Before being an entrepreneur, I never dreamt of for example mending a booth. I’m a very shy person and very self -conscious. But after sometime, I manage to overcome my shyness and my self esteem improved. Another thing is that when my group of suppliers and traders grow, I feel deep satisfaction because I manage to not only help myself but also others in making a difference in their lives.

    4) Is it difficult to get financing for businesses? If so, why and are there any solutions?

    Yes if you do not have a good financial background but that should not prevent you from being an entrepreneur. Financial support can come from family members and friends. In my business, for those who have inadequate capital, they can start as low as $39! All they need after that is sheer hard work and prayers.

    5) Did you have a mentor to help you get started?

    Yes, I would never indulge myself in any business if I do not see any success for those who have done it. My mentor has been in this biz very long and I feel very confident in him to guide me to achieve success.

    6) Approximately how much money did you invest before your business became profitable?

    I have personally purchase 1 trading volume to start my business. I got back my initial investment by just trading half of my stocks.

    7) What resources were most helpful to you when you were starting your business?

    My main resource is my mentor cos he was the one who brainchild this trading and supply business. Other information I got are from the internet and from my interaction with fellow suppliers and traders in my business.

    8) What ways have you found to be most effective in marketing your product or service to get sales?

    There are various ways that I market my products but most effective is personal recommendation from relatives and friends. Mending booth help to introduce the product to to the consumers and the free trial that I give enable them to be more convinced to purchase the product.

    9) What tips can you give others who want to embrace their dream but, don’t have the confidence or feel they don’t have what it takes to succeed?

    WHATEVER YOU THINK IS RIGHT! If you think you can do it, you can but if you think you can’t, then you can’t. Confidence can be built with knowledge and sales activities. You must be willing to come out of your comfort zone if you want to embrace your dream.

    10) How do you manage juggling the responsibilities of being an entrepreneur?

    I’m a mother of four. Juggling responsibilities can be done by prioritising your roles. Do not be so rigid in life. Be flexible and willing to adapt to changes when the needs arrived. During my children exam period, I lessen my sales activities to cater for their needs.I also involved them in my business so that they understand what I’m doing and be more appreciative of my effort to bring comfort to their lives.

    11) What’s next for you?

    I’m targeting the world to market my product. I am currently negotiating with traders from Brunei and Indonesia. Besides that I am continuously expanding my team to include housewives and students who want to earn extra income.

    I hope this sharing will give you the motivations to keep up your journey.

    Salam semua, today was my last episode for the paradigma segmen under AB Shaik , And it went well all this 4 weeks. I received many emails and calls regards the program , Insya Allah might be doing some other segmens as well in the near future.

    As for the benefit for all , i will do a summary of what i share here in my blog .

    The first day

    It was introduction about me and also about the financial literacy topic to discuss. And it was very interesting as it is not planned that i will be continuing the program. But the topic seems to attract more listners and we were getting many calls and emails,So AB shaik decides it will be good and beneficial for the listeners . Thats how we continue for 4 weeks,

    So the first day i share about MAP and Kompas Wang

    M- Its all about our mind set, and i stress to have a very positive mindset. Everything starts in mind so it is important to have a positive mind. I stress about this here Infact in MAP untuk KAYA program i will give a technique on how to develop and form new neuorons in our mind.

    A- I talked about no matter how postive our mind can be , nothing will happen if there is no action. So i stress on taking specific actions to achieve our goals.

    P- Planning is important as even we have right mindset and take the necessary actions but without planning we might not on our track or even we will lose out.

    This is what i share on the 1st day , And i stressed on getting financial education as this is what will make our community progress ahead. So as for the benefit i am doing my MAP untuk KAYA on this 1st November 2008 , This will be a good start for those who really keen on having great financial health and wealth.

    APA khabar para usahawan semua? Sejak akhir-akhir ini bermacam-macam cerita yang kita dengar mengenai ekonomi dunia.

    Bagaimana dengan anda? Adakah anda sentiasa mengikuti berita di akhbar dan televisyen mengenai kegawatan ekonomi?

    Hari ini, AbangAbu akan bincangkan empat perkara yang perlu diberi perhatian oleh usahawan bagi mengurangkan kesukaran dalam menghadapi kegawatan ekonomi ini.

  • Pertama, AbangAbu syorkan anda mula memberi perhatian kepada pelanggan anda serta dekatkan diri anda dengan mereka. Jangan risau akan masa depan, sebaliknya mula bertanya soal kegawatan daripada pelanggan anda. Keadaan gawat ini tidak akan kekal. Dalam keadaan gawat, masih ada yang membeli produk anda. Adalah menjadi tugas seorang usahawan memberikan tumpuan kepada keperluan pelanggan.
  • Hanya pada waktu seperti ini para usahawan perlu lebih gigih dan bekerja keras. Anda juga perlu bijak menguruskan perniagaan dengan lebih efektif. Dalam keadaan ekonomi hangat, selalunya para pelanggan akan mencari anda, tetapi dalam keadaan ekonomi meleset, anda pula yang perlu mencari pelanggan serta meluangkan sedikit masa berbincang dengan mereka.

    Dalam abad ini, anda perlu menjadikan pelanggan anda sebagai rakan perniagaan anda, bukan sekadar pembeli sahaja. Dalam keadaan ekonomi meleset, hubungan antara peniaga dan pelanggan akan menentukan kejayaan sesebuah perniagaan. Pelanggan akan sentiasa menyokong anda dalam apa jua keadaan ekonomi sekiranya mereka dapat layanan yang baik daripada anda.

  • Kedua, anda harus tahu akan aliran tunai kewangan anda. Berapakah wang yang anda belanjakan dan berapakah wang yang dibawa masuk?
  • Teliti trend bajet perbelanjaan tahun lalu, mungkin ada sesuatu yang tidak penting dibelanjakan tahun ini. Ini perlu diberi perhatian, contohnya mungkin anda mempunyai perjumpaan pekerja setiap minggu di sebuah hotel mewah tetapi tahun ini adalah lebih baik jika ia diadakan di tempat yang lebih menjimatkan.

    Satu lagi perkara yang penting adalah aliran wang yang perlu masuk. Anda perlu memulakan operasi meminta pelanggan anda membayar segala yang perlu dibayar. Jangan biarkan akaun kredit ini kerana anda juga perlu bayar kepada pemborong anda misalnya. Sekiranya anda membiarkan pelanggan anda melambatkan bayaran, mungkin anda akan menghadapi masalah aliran tunai.

    Kalau dulu anda mempunyai pekerja untuk melakukan operasi memungut bayaran daripada pelanggan, di masa gawat anda sendiri perlu melakukannya.

  • Ketiga, semakin banyak anda bincang soal kegawatan mungkin akan menimbulkan perasaan serta minda yang negatif. Ini akan menyebabkan anda mengambil tindakan yang kurang kreatif.
  • Anda perlu menjaga emosi anda agar tidak meleset. Kurangkan mendengar berita yang negatif, sebaliknya tumpukan pada jualan anda.

  • Keempat, anda perlu menimba ilmu kewangan dan perniagaan. Bayangkan anda ingin mengembara ke sebuah tempat yang baru dan anda tidak faham bahasa di sana. Selain daripada persediaan mengembara, baik jika anda belajar bahasa tempat itu juga. Itu adalah yang terbaik.
  • Seperti dalam perniagaan, ramai usahawan hanya terjun botol tanpa mempelajari ilmu perniagaan.
