1)What kind of business do you have? What inspired you to become an Entrepreneur business owner?
I run 2 businesses and 1 nonprofit:
- SabunWarisanBumi.com: natural soap manufacturer and OEM
- CooLLat.com: mushroom courses online and offline
- KuliahPekan: kuliah agama information provider in Pekan, Pahang. https://www.facebook.com/kuliahpekan
(1 to feed my family, 1 for the community and 1 for the afterlife)
2)Did you need to have a certain mindset to achieve success?
Mental readiness is paramount for me as I work from home, and care for my children full time including one autistic 5 years old boy.
I motivate myself daily on 2 main goals:
- To always be grateful for all I have (little or a lot)
- To always strive for improvement (big or small)
3)Have you noticed certain advantages to being an entrepreneur business owner?
If you succeed being consistently profitable, being in business gives you the choice to control your time, focus and money yourselves.
I run homebased businesses to ensure I got plenty of family time, while using the least time and resources possible yet still secure like normal salary jobs.
4)Is it difficult to get financing for businesses? If so why and are there any solutions?
Hard if you are not ready. Not ready meaning you dont have a plan yet to start the smallest scale of your idea yet. Once you can prove your idea worth it, capital comes easily.
I started all businesses from scratch with little money, so we achieve profitability early.
5)Did you have a mentor to help you get started?
No. At that time, I’m too poor. I only do teh tarik sessions with some of local entrepreneurs to get some idea. Costs so little.
But currently I have 2 coaches to ensure my startups growing well.
- Abang Abu
- Irfan Khairi
6)Approximately how much money did you invest before your business became profitable?
Sabun Warisan Bumi requires RM200 (each partner RM100), profitable since we are both part timers (in 2011) and running online.
Still running after 10 years, alhamdulillah.
CooLLat is still in infancy, profitable but still struggling for traction nationwide. Now is the 4th year. Capital started RM1,000.
7)What resources were most helpful to you when you were starting your business?
Family are my supporters.I failed so many times. They always put up with me. I wont forget them.
To create businesses, my source of ideas comes from online free sources, reading books and free goverment courses (MARA, KEMAS etc.)
8)What ways have you found to be most effective in marketing your product or service to get sales?
SEO. Free marketing thats really targeted and easily converted into sales. But to be good I’ve spent roughly 8 years of trials and errors.
9)What tips can you give others who want to embrace their dream but, don’t have the confidence or feel they don’t have what it takes to succeed?
No matter where you are. You can (1) use what you have and (2) strive to be better. Thats what I do.
Dont compare with others. Your biggest enemy is your own weaknesses.
10)How do you manage juggling the responsibilities of being a entrepreneur?
Its tough for me. My autistic child is seldom hard to care. I do planning often. I prioritize most important task first and arrange the small tasks afterwards.
I recommend the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for this.
11)What’s next for you?
- Ensure my bussinesses stays ahead and expanding.
- Achieve financial freedom.
- Leave a legacy.
